I am back and taking part in the SuperSeed Challenge
February 17th, 2012Hello all! I must first apologise as I have not blogged in ages as I have been on a PGCE course to become a lecturer in Art & Design and I have not had the time to keep my blog going. I wanted to let you all know that I am back and I have been creating (I will be updating with some previous & current projects soon). If you haven’t seen me in a while I have cut my hair short and i have had a bit of a style update:
I also am taking part in the Superseed Challenge for The Moringa Tree and will be keeping you posted with my fundraising efforts. The Moringa Tree are a charity who work within the UK and overseas who aim to put on music and art events to bring about positive change, promote social cohesion and enable people to support themselves. The SuperSeed challenge takes inspiration from the “one red paperclip” challenge where Kyle MacDonald took a single red paperclip and managed to trade up to a house in fourteen trades. For this challenge I have been sent a moringa oleifera tree seed and will be trading it up over the next month and then selling off the final item and donating the proceeds to The Moringa Tree. This video will tell you more about the challenge and it is still open so you can join me and take part, go on you know you want to!
I have had a bit of trouble with receiving my mail recently and it has taken me a while to finally get my moringa oleifera seed so I bought some online as a back up and will be trying to trade them too. (Don’t let this put you off joining, I had neighbours stealing post. who are now thankfully gone) The moringa tree seed is a good choice for a starting point as it is a symbol of hope and is also know as the “miracle tree” as it has many amazing properties such as being able to clean dirty water and its leaves are highly nutritious when consumed.
According to the Environment Society of Australia ”The Moringa tree provides 7 times the Vitamin C in oranges, 4 times the calcium in milk, 4 times the Vitamin A in carrots, 2 times the protein in milk, and 3 times the potassium in bananas”
Here are my little beauties, please let me know if you want to trade something for one as currently four are still available… I have been told that if you are planting them in Britain they need to be propagated in a greenhouse and will only tolerate a mild frost so will need to be in a pot so they can be brought in for winter.
Moringa seed number one has been traded Steve Daoud’s (Founder of Little Whale Studio) old Olympus Camedia C-350 3.2MP digital camera. Look at that beautiful smiley face!
This has now been traded for Luke Smith’s (Social media consultant & Royal Mail’slead twitter chap) Digital Drum DD-50 Drum Machine. Thank you!
I have two people in mind that might want to trade for the drum machine… Please contact me if you would like to trade something for one of the other seeds or want to talk about my other work.
Here is a sneak peak at a project that I am currently working on…
Check back soon to see how I get on with the SuperSeed challenge and with my other creative projects.
